From ABC HOUSTON (KTRK) — “Houston’s most renowned plastic surgeon recently performed one of the biggest breast reductions he has ever done.
Kerisha Mark suffers from a medical condition that gave her a 36NNN bust size and all of the pain, embarrassment, and physical hardships that went along with it.
ABC cameras went inside the operating room as Mark celebrated her 40th birthday with a life-altering operation and had more than 15 pounds of tissue removed.
“I was like, happy birthday to me!” Mark said.
She wants to be known for the woman she is, a wife, mother, and school social worker, not the extremely large chest that has prompted stares and whispers since high school.
“My first time at boot camp, I did a jumping jack and my bra snapped,” Mark said.
Mark is an extreme case for Dr. Franklin Rose. As her natural breasts grew larger the emotional and physical effects began taking a toll.
“I started to have really bad headaches. Women and men want to touch them to see if they are real. It’s really intimidating,” Mark said.
After much prayer, she went to renowned Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Franklin Rose. Rose says he hasn’t seen anything like it in his 30 years of practice.
“She is among the largest, if not the largest patients for breast reduction,” Rose said. “This indention she has from constant dragging and pulling.”
“Nobody could support this additional weight,” Rose said. “She would have ended up almost a hunchback given 30 more years.”
Not long into recovery, the wife and mother realized she had become a new woman. “When I stood up for the first time I felt so light.” Mark said.
She also experienced emotions she didn’t anticipate. “After I got home I did cry. It was like I mourned the death of them, it was like a divorce,” Mark said.
But a door opened to many firsts. She was able to shop for a new wardrobe. Next summer she’ll be able to wear a swimsuit for the first time. “My first thing on the agenda is to purchase a beautiful bra and second is to buy a strapless dress,” Mark said.

Via the Washington Post: “Sometimes the pain would shoot through her chest without warning — a sharp, debilitating burn so excruciating that Kerisha Mark was convinced she was having a heart attack.
Other times, it started in her shoulders before crawling up the nerves in her neck and settling inside her head, where it would blossom into a full-blown migraine that could last for days.
Each time Mark ended up in the emergency room, doctors told the 40-year-old high school social worker from Beaumont, Tex., the same thing: She wasn’t having a heart attack and, no, she didn’t have a brain tumor, either.
The problem was her breasts.
More specifically, their size. Mark had always had an exceptionally large bust, she said, but by her late 30s, her chest had ballooned to size 36NNN. “I could not run or jump or work out at all,” she told The Post. “I was very limited in a lot of things I could do. I mean, you can’t find a sports bra that size anyway.”
Mark said that she began using duct tape to hold them in place.

After several years of reluctantly considering surgery, Mark decided to get a breast reduction from Franklin Rose, a well-known plastic surgeon based in Houston. Rose told The Post that he couldn’t recall seeing a patient with larger breasts in almost 35 years of work as a plastic surgeon.
“The breasts really hung down to her hips and were essentially like carrying around three basketballs at all times because they were so large,” he said. “When we went into the exam room — I don’t know if I would use this word ‘shocking,’ but it was certainly startling to see breasts of that magnitude.”
Fortunately, Rose said, breast reduction surgery is largely the same regardless of the patient’s breast size, though he was forced to bring in a second assistant to facilitate the four-hour surgery in September, just days after Mark’s 40th birthday.
“The challenge is not so much what you remove, but what you leave behind to make a pretty breast,” Rose said. “We left her with a nice full DD that she was very happy with.”
Left untreated, he added, Mark may have developed degenerative kyphosis, a condition in which a person’s spine curves forward, forming a hump or “hunchback.”
More than a month after her surgery — Mark said she’s feeling much better and that her symptoms have disappeared. In addition to losing weight from her breast reduction, she’s dropped another 10 pounds in recent weeks.
She plans to start exercising again. She is also picking out a new wardrobe, she said, and is excited about purchasing her first bathing suit in two decades.”

Kerisha Mark, 39, says having her breast reduction procedure before turning 40 years old, was something she has wanted to do for most of her adult life. Upon approaching age 40, Kerisha noticed a marked increase in pain and discomfort caused by her large breasts that had not been as noticeable in her twenties. Kerisha reports a significant increase in the amount of muscle pain, headaches, and nerve damage due to her large and heavy size 36NNN breasts. A recent doctor’s examination revealed bulging discs in her neck and damage to her neck similar to those who have been involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Says Kerisha: “I often get a lot of unwanted attention, stares and questions about my large breasts from complete strangers, both males AND females; who ask me: Where did you get those? Are they real? Do they hurt? And so on. I realize that many women pay for this type of attention and enjoy it but this unwanted attention has always made me feel awkward and uncomfortable and has taken a negative toll on my psyche.”
I am really looking forward to enjoying wearing normal sized bathing suits and clothing- which up until now I have had to have tailored by a seamstress along with an improved sense of well being and other benefits and improvements to my life that I feel this surgery by Dr. Rose will bring to me.”
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with the body and to alleviate the discomfort often associated with overly large breasts and has proven to have both physical as well psychological benefits for many.
